In the series of canvas paintings, an engraving is always executed into a thick layer of wall paint that covers older paintings—both by the artist and by others—which were discarded or left behind. The carving with a knife reveals the original once again, inviting reflection on the etymological similarity between engraving (charita) and regret (charata). In many instances, the knife wounds the original painting, which in turn waits for the wet wall paint to dry and heal the canvas anew.
